Stakeholder Analysis
Stakeholder analysis is the systematic process of identifying, analyzing, and planning engagement strategies for individuals and groups who can affect or be affected by the project.
Stakeholder Identification
Identify stakeholders as early as possible. Sources include:
- Project charter
- Business case
- Procurement documents
- Enterprise environmental factors
- Organizational process assets
Analysis Models
- Power/Interest Grid — Most commonly tested. Classify by authority level and concern.
- Salience Model — Classify by power, urgency, and legitimacy.
- Directions of Influence — Upward (senior mgmt), Downward (team), Outward (customers), Sideward (peers).
Engagement Assessment Matrix
Track each stakeholder's current (C) and desired (D) engagement level:
- Unaware → Resistant → Neutral → Supportive → Leading
Plan actions to move stakeholders from C to D.
